The Rising Sun, nestled in the vibrant City Centre of Reading, is quickly establishing itself as a culinary gem. With its exceptional service and friendly staff, diners are treated to an inviting atmosphere that perfectly complements the thoughtfully prepared dishes.
Guests rave about the wild foraged mushrooms, a succulent starter that perfectly sets the stage for the main event. The sirloin steaks are a standout, touted for their melt-in-your-mouth quality. The pork tomahawk also garners praise for its flavor, paired beautifully with buttery pommes purée. However, some found certain dishes, like the beetroot terrine, in need of a flavor boost.
The restaurant's outdoor space is a delightful addition, especially on sunny days, complete with cozy blankets to enhance the experience. Patrons like Constantin commend the staff for their attentiveness, with special mention going to Lana, whose warm demeanor and expert recommendations make a lasting impression.
Overall, The Rising Sun promises an unforgettable dining experience with a balance of stars in both atmosphere and cuisine. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or enjoying a casual meal, this restaurant offers a warm welcome that keeps guests returning.

Exceptional service, wonderful friendly staff and the food was incredible. Highly recommend the wild foraged mushrooms for starter. The sirloin steaks were cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. I really enjoyed the cosy and warm atmosphere And the outdoor area with blankets is a lovely touch. First time visiting the area and highly impressed with the phenomenal ambiance

Went for lunch with my partner the garden has an incredible wine especially on a sunny day, polite and helpful staff The beetroot terrine was nice overall missing some flavor and the horse radish sorbet to hard almost like was scooped before and kept in the freezer The scotch egg was perfect one of the best we be tried Pork tomahawk was tasty the pomme pure nice and balanced with butter maybe a bit more apple for the price The chocolate deluxe was amazing too all the flavors were working really well together

Birthday lunch at the Rising Sun. This place is a hidden gem. We had the set menu and the food was incredible! I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant, you have to experience it for yourself.

We had a starter and main each. We utilised the main half price deal. The prawn and crayfish starter was a tasty but a little on small size. Had the venison which was very good. My partner liked her soup and pie. The service was good and atmosphere warm and welcoming. We will return. It was a midweek lunch so fairly quiet.

I had a great experience at this restaurant! The atmosphere is cozy and relaxing, and everything felt clean and well-maintained. The food was delicious, thoughtfully prepared, and served in a timely manner. The staff overall were friendly and attentive, but a special thanks goes to Lana, who made our visit even more enjoyable. She was warm, professional, and gave us excellent recommendations from the menu. I’ll definitely be back and would happily recommend this place to others!

What a fantastic experience. Reading finally has a superb restaurant. Service was friendly yet professional, food was very reasonably priced and incredibly tasty. Decor was spot on, as was the large outside space. Can’t recommend enough. Keep up the great work. And people of Reading and surrounding, make a special journey here

We have been here now for the second time in 4 weeks. 2 different occasions: family sunday lunch and bday treat sunday roast. Food so good (beef Sunday roast is so tender, melts in your mouth, lamb for next time). Consistent on all food ! Chicken, bang on. Service: top notch. John is amazing, but also the man at the reception and all staff. First on one on my list for next sunday roast or the weekday menu. Keep going team as you will become (probably already are) the place to be x

During a visit for dinner, my partner enjoyed the food and service so much, he decided to book a table to celebrate his big birthday. We booked our party of 12 for mid-afternoon during which we were really well looked after by our server, Chante. She was brilliant and with the help of the team, made sure we had an enjoyable celebration. The food was excellent - those who had steak said they were perfectly cooked. Thanks team for making our visit to The Rising Sun a memorable one.
